Grout fails for a few reasons: the house moves, water gets behind it, or it was mixed or cured badly. Once joints crack or wash out, water reaches the backer board, and that is how a small problem turns into a rebuild.
Regrouting means raking or grinding out the old grout, cleaning the joints, packing in new grout and sealing it once it has cured. A cracked or loose tile is cut out and reset. Both are slower than cleaning and every job is different, so we price them from your details and photos.
Signs you need it
- Hairline cracks along the joints, or grout that crumbles when you scratch it
- Gaps, holes or grout washed out of the lowest joints in a shower
- Tiles that move, sound hollow, or are cracked or chipped
- Stains that come back days after cleaning
Tile repair
A single cracked tile is often a sign of something under it: a void in the thin-set, a hard hit, or movement in the floor. If you have spare tiles from the original job, keep them for the crew; a close match is the hardest part.
